Video Recording Quality Improvements

Smoother video during recordings with reduced CPU usage.

1What changed

MeetMatch now uses the VP8 video codec (instead of VP9) for browser-side recording compositing. VP8 uses significantly less CPU — roughly 3-5x less — which eliminates the choppy video that some users experienced during longer calls. Additionally, the canvas draw loop is now throttled to 24 fps instead of matching your monitor's refresh rate (often 60+ fps), further reducing CPU usage.

2Audio-only mode

When video upload is disabled in your settings (the default), MeetMatch now skips video compositing entirely. Only dual-track audio is recorded, which uses minimal CPU. This is the recommended setting unless you specifically need to review visual recordings.
